Some tips on replacing your stock suspension with adjustable koni shock absorbers
It was time to update the chrysler's (cm valiant glx) suspension setup it was starting to boat around (well more than usual) and just wasnt reacting to bumps in the road properly, you'de just abuot feel every bump twice.
solution - replace every shock absorber with an adjustible koni suspension unit and replace the swaybar link bushes.
complete set (4) adjustible koni shock absorber units was around $580, plus $20 for the swaybar link bushes (blue type nolothane?)
when i bought the car it had monroe gas shockers (blue) the front right hand side was dead, the rears were still servicable and the front left one also not so bad but a bit slushy, will keep the rear monroe gas shock absorbers for another project
there were a couple of small issues with the koni adjustible units, the units themselves were fine however i did find the bushings supplied were a few millimeters too big, as I could get the top washer on with enough thread left to engage the first nut - if i had another pair of hands this would probably be no problem.
the other one is the documention isnt all that great on how to adjust the units, turns out from the factory (in the box) they are set to "full soft", there are two full turns from soft to hard, you need to compress the unit fully and then turn it while still applying some force, you will feel the adjuster part engage, a tip here is also to mark the unit with a permanent marker so you know where soft was, also can do this to make sure you get each side of the car to the same settings.
the front bushings are different to the original style, the front ones are a single bush that squashes down into the inner panel isntead of two rubbers squashing against eachother, it took me a few embarrassed moments to realise this, also there is a small crush tube that comes with the unit, im not totally clear on if this should go in from the top or the bottom.
